The old scanners worked fine with a amplified speaker plugged in the headphone jack. The jack the on the sds100 is dummied down so low a amplified speaker don't help much. I've never had the computer try to install a new driver in the many times I've disconnected the scanner and reconnected it, (except on the original install). The IC-R30 far outperformed the SDS100 and rarely stopped, opened squelch without good clear voice traffic. On noisy or poor voice traffic some were unintelligible on the SDS100, the IC-R30 still had impressive clear audio. CT. Apr 13, 2021. #2. I had the DMR key included (I believe it was discounted at time of purchase). Last year, just under one year into the warranty, my wife started her car while the scanner was plugged into the car for power. It shut down and would not power back on. .
